Lessons Learned and Epic Fails

The Best Group Experiments: Lessons Learned and Epic Fails

As a first year student at BRAC University, my journey with group experiments in physics has been a rollercoaster of experiences. From initial awkward introductions to forming lasting friendships, our group experiments have been a blend of epic fails and valuable lessons.

The Beginning: Strangers to Teammates

At the start, none of us knew each other. We were just a bunch of strangers from different schools assigned together by our teacher. Our first task was to break the silent atmosphere, which we did by introducing ourselves and forming a group chat. This was our first step towards becoming a team.

The First Experiment: A Chaotic Disaster

Our first experiment was nothing short of a disaster. Despite assigning tasks to each member, no one, including myself, completed their part. As the deadline loomed, panic set in. In a last-minute scramble, we somehow managed to finish the experiment, but it was far from perfect. This experience taught us the importance of communication and responsibilities as team members.

Turning the Tide: Success in the Second Experiment

Determined to improve, we approached our second experiment with a better plan. We met regularly in library and on online discord servers, discussed our progress, and supported each other. This time, we completed the experiment perfectly on time. The success boosted our confidence and strengthened our bond as a team.

Trusting Each Other: Fun and Support

Our trust for each other increased as we started hanging out, doing research, and studying together. We had a lot of fun, and if anyone was sick, others would step in to do their part. This mutual support was crucial in maintaining our momentum.

The Third Experiment: Another Setback

Despite our progress, the third experiment was another disaster. We failed to understand the concepts and ended up laughing at our mistakes. It was about the measurement of refractive index of a liquid substance using convex lens. The apparatus was difficult to set up and the manual was giving us a headache.  It was a great experience, reminding us that failure is a part of the learning process.

Mid Exams: We Survived

Mid exams were around the corner, and our group studies and sleepless nights paid off. We helped each other understand difficult topics, and we were all late for the exams however, the exams went well for all of us. We were all writing during the last 5 minutes of the exam as much as possible.

The Final Experiments & Final Exams: Challenges and Memories

Experiments four and five were the toughest. We faced multiple failures, but each attempt was filled with laughter and memorable moments and we completed the experiments on time. The final exams were also tough. We were awake for the entire night before the exam completing all the chapters. These challenges brought us closer despite the setbacks.

The End of the Semester: Reflecting on Our Journey

As the semester came to an end, we looked back at our journey with a sense of accomplishment. The experiments, despite the ups and downs, had brought us together. We had formed friendships, learned valuable lessons, and created memories that would last a lifetime. We made new friends and worked together with other groups. It was a wonderful experience for all of us especially for me.

In conclusion, our group projects in physics were a mix of epic fails and successes. They taught us the importance of teamwork, communication, and responsibilities. Most importantly, they showed us that the journey is just as important as the destination.
